Decent restaurants are notoriously hard to find in Venice; quiet restaurants are even rarer, as most places seem filled with piped music. This makes the Ristorante Ribot even more of a find for it is a seriously good restaurant – though it’s not cheap, even by Venetian prices. Located in the Santa Croce district, on a quiet canal near the train and bus station, it has a pleasant courtyard garden. Here Italians come to eat proper Italian meals. Dishes such as ‘sardines “in saor ” and creamed cod with polenta’ or black hand-made tagliatelle with scampi and julienne of zucchini are typical. Reportedly there is sometimes live music in the inner part of the restaurant, but not when I was there.
The hotel attached, the Locanda Salieri, offers simple but pleasant accomodation.
