Just off the traffic-clogged A303 northwest of Salisbury but a world away in every other sense sits this old coaching inn amidst some of the best countryside in Wiltshire.
Recently renovated in a traditional style that celebrates rather than desecrates its original character, it has comfortable chairs in the bar area grouped around a very effective wood fire, The dining room opens off this. Upstairs are bedrooms in similar comfortable yet traditional style. Overall, prices are surprisingly reasonable.
There is seating outside in warm weather. Dogs welcomed. Hindon itself is an attractive large village or small town, near the railway station at Tisbury.

In their own words: “Seasonal, local food and decent booze. You’ll find old classics sitting pride of place on our menu, like our wonderfully large handmade pies, as well as locally sourced fish – be it from Brixham or local rivers – and we’ll always have a vegan or vegetarian dish too. We aren’t into micro herbs and fussy plates, our food is hearty, interesting and delicious; we keep things simple and do them well.
